Kafkaesque
I feel myself internally screaming “What the actual fuck” more and more lately. The United States of America is looking an awful like the type of dream you have after a four-day binge and you finally crash out. Practically comatose your booze-filled and drug-addled brain pulls images from various media. Ever wonder what you'd get if American History X, 1984, and The Handmaid's Tale had a three-way directed by David Lynch and with a musical score by Danny Elfman? Well, you get our current politics. Almost feels dreamlike, the shock and overload has been hitting many people pretty hard and that was the point. The goal is to “flood the Zone” or give everyone an overwhelming amount of things to focus on all at once. Focus on everything, you focus on nothing. This rapid-fire method is used to make fact-checking difficult and time-consuming and honestly most people don't have time to sift through it all. This is causing a growing fatalistic mindset. The alarm is going off and many people continue choosing to hit the snooze button.
I wish I had a solution for this, but it seems all we can do is realize this is not a dream. The ridiculousness is real. The belief that we couldn’t be taken over by authoritarianism or fascism was wrong, but “We the People” can stand against it, as soon as we all wake up.
